Prague has a long and important
history in Central Europe. Situted in the heart of Europe, it was
a natural crossing of merchant roads and political influences.
In 14th century, under Charles IV Prague was a
capital of Holy Roman Empire and the Lands of the Czech Crown reached
from the Baltic on the North to the Adriatic Sea on the South. Charles
IV. also founded the first university in Central Europe, which now
carries his name.
During the rule of Rudolf II. Prague became a centre
of arts and science. Famous astronomers J. Kepler and T. Brahe,
alchemists E. Kelly and J. Dee and many others came to Prague after
the invitation of the Emperor.
Prague, called Golden Prague, Magic Prague, Hundred-spired
Prague, Prague - the Mother of the Towns, was dear to all Czech
people, but the city often found admirers also among foreigners.
For example W. A. Mozart liked to return here and he choose Prague
to be a place of the world premiere of his opera Don Giovanni.
Also at present thousands of tourists fall in love with Prague,
